Who’s behind Grammantics?
Judith Stern Friedman is an award-winning writer, teacher, coach, and advocate for keeping the written word alive. In 30+ years of professional writing, she has been widely published in national magazine and book publications, including Better Homes & Gardens home décor, holiday, crafting and quilting titles. Judy’s most recent work explores themes of nature, folklore, and human experience, with emphasis on writing short.
Judy shares her expertise through writing workshops, coaching, tutoring, and university-level teaching. She has been honored as a Women of Spirit & Action and was nominated for an Excellence in Teaching award from DePaul University in Chicago. She also won a distinguished DePaul QM Star Award for her excellence in online course design.
Judy’s university teaching and complementary work in private and group tutoring fueled the development of Grammantics. As a result of teaching and working with students whose writing falls short of English/writing standards, she built this resource to provide the fundamentals that so many students are missing.
The Grammantics lessons and activities here represent the intersection of countless teaching and learning moments. Through one-on-one student and group experiences, Judy has seen and celebrated improved writing skills, student-reported successes, and a noticeable rise in confidence that come from learning to write with understanding.

"Grammantics brings students—and teachers—back to the basics. Good writing can only be built on a solid foundation, which Grammantics allows students to easily create. I am excited to teach it again this year."
“ I can say that the approaches and techniques described in Grammantics are invaluable. Grammar can be a dry subject, but it has made the topic interesting and memorable. In addition to helping younger learners, it provided me with an excellent refresher on the "rules" of grammar.”
